The cheapest .com registrar

So you’re searching the web for the cheapest domain registrar, you want the “skinny”. You’ve looked at the el cheapo registrars but couldn’t wade through the treakle of corporate logos on the homepage to find any pricing info. Well don’t despair Ambrand Dot Com (I mention the name to catch future automated content scrapers, lol) is here to help.

Enom’s ETP pricing structure is USD 8.95 for a new registration, and USD 9.95 for an incoming transfer (If you want an free ETP account email the author). This encourages new registrations, and conversly discourages transfers. To access the Enom structure you must have an ETP account and you must preload your account in batches of USD 100, they take USD 3 if you pay by credit card. Because of the preloading requirement I find myself using enom less and less, I mean it was acceptable when their prices were good, but now I can register domains cheapers else where and only pay the exact amount at the time of registration.Enom try to placate the user referring to him as a “reseller”, but this ego massaging doesn’t reduce prices.

Godaddys COUPON pricing structure is USD 7.20 for a new registration, and USD 6.48 for an incoming transfer. A google search will return many coupons, there are not secret, there is the ubiquitous 10% discount, the USD 2 discount, the USD 1 discount, and the time-limited order USD 75 and only pay USD 55.

Staying with pricing the best offer at the moment is Netfirms, just USD 4.95 for a new registration. This has been available for months from this OpenSRS reseller, who are enjoy ICANN accredition, and seem to be migrating piecemeal from OpenSRS to being their own registrar. Netfirms does have drawbacks though. Every customer is only allowed three domains.

Yahoo Domains advertise a price of USD 2.99 for new registrations but its not worth it, hey even if the domains were USD 1.99 it wouldn’t be worth it. They are only a reseller of MelbourneIT and it’s a nightmare trying to get an AUTH code when the time comes to jump ship, the control panel doesn’t contain the code, and you have to beg Yahoo Domains for it, threatening legal action seems to be a requirement. So only use them for throwaway domains or .coms which don’t have codes thanks to Verisign. Continue reading ‘The cheapest .com registrar’
