Bremner, Bird and Fortune

This man is a genius, the voices, the expressions, the clothing, all spot on, and his pieces are actually informative. Imagine you’ve been in a cave for a year and watch the videos below, they sum up the current economic crisis.

and then his associates, John Bird and John Fortune, whom both made brief appearances in “Yes Minister”

Scam emails

We all receive spam, most is poorly phrased and screams SPAM or SCAM from a split seconds glance.

I do enjoy reading localized (sic) scam emails, here is one from last week:

Subject: Mrs. Maureen Haughey

Dear Friend,

I am Maureen Haughey, widow of former Taoiseach of the Republic of Ireland, Charles J. Haughey and daughter of former Taoiseach of the Republic of Ireland and heir to de Valera, Sean F. Lemass.

The Press has written a lot about unresolved mysteries and corruption surrounding Charles’s dealings, but I tell you something, my Charlie was a good man. He was human and he did whatever he did. People marvel why I stuck with Charlie and didn’t speak during the mess that came with the exposure of his affairs with Terry Keane (I just hate to think of her). I had to stand by him through the tribunal times. lt was to do with what I’m doing now. No one knew the details of all Charlie’s financial dealings but me. I remain the only one who knows all who got loans from Charlie and didn’t come back to pay when he was disgraced. I am the only one who knows about these monies and the other Ansbacher accounts.

I write to you, an old weary woman, sick and almost tired of living. My end is near but I will not depart until my final mission is accomplished and I also write this with an unshaken belief in the power of aspirations and dreams of a human being. The Irish government thinks it can shave and reduce me to a poor widow but I have the winning ace. A few years ago, when we weren’t sure if my Charlie would be convicted, he kept some money in trust for me in a Security and Finance company. He did not open the account in our names so it will not be traced to us to enable the past remain the past. The name on the account is Cedric de Vregille. I never thought Charlie would leave me so soon and it never occurred to me to ask if this name were fictitious or not or a name of any of his friends. I have tried to find this man but to no avail. The amount he deposited in this name is €30,000,000 (Thirty Million Euros). I want an honest person to come forward and lay claims to this amount, moreover to use the funds as instructed by me. I have all the documents needed, I just need a face for the name.

I have mapped out 10% of the funds for you, as you will help us (you and I) execute this job. As soon as I receive your acceptance for this work I shall give you necessary details of my solicitor who will facilitate the release of the funds in your name. Please reply me via my personal email:(mrsmaureenh@gmail.com)

For my security and the sake of letting sleeping dogs lie, I strongly advice that you keep our dealings confidential. You can read more about my Charlie from:

Thank You.

Baht will be two euro please, sir

The bi-metallic 2 euro coin used in the Euro currency zone of the European Union bears an uncanny resemblance to the 10 baht coin used in Thailand.

The thai coin was minted first, so the members of the Euro coin design committee -  and this being Europe we know there must have been a committee - must have had red faces when the issue was first publicised in 2002.

Today I have two of the thai coins that I was unfortunate enough to get in change. I say unfortunate because instead of being worth EUR 2, they are worth only EUR 0.21. If I was dishonest I could pass them on to someone else in change, or use them in a vending machine which might accept them.

It is interesting that ebay.ie, and other European ebay sites, are not swamped with thai residents selling bags of the coins.

As a sidebar, why do so many Eastern coins show their leaders wearing glasses? While it must be a reality surely for the purposes of a portrait one would take off glasses as they are considered a sign of weakness.

SawStop

There are some ideas that are inherently patentable.

SawStop, applies a small electrical current to the blade of the saw. This current is continuously monitored. If the saw detects a change in this current (as would occur if a hand or other body part came into contact with the blade) an automatic braking system is activated, forcing an aluminum brake block into the blade.

The saw stops within 5 milliseconds, and angular momentum lowers the blade into the table. The operator suffers a small nick rather than a potential amputation. The process does ruin the blade, however it’s a small price to pay for saving a finger.

eStatements mandatory on AIB new credit card

It will be recalled that in December 2006 we considered whether or not so called eStatements were desirable for the consumer or not, our conclusion was in the negative.

Since that time many other companies have hopped on the bandwagon in their quest to pass on the cost of printing to the consumer, without reducing the cost of their product.

Companies boast how environmentally friendly they are (as no paper is used for printing, and no diesel is used by the post office delivering).

As with all ulterior motivated schemes by large organisations what was once optional eventually, after a planned soft sell, becomes mandatory, and here it is folks…

On AIB’s new credit card, which is the first vertically oriented card, that suits the chip and pin readers, we noticed the following…
