Bank of Ireland - BOI - won’t let me have a Laser Card (a Maestro card available in Ireland) or Cheque Guarantee Card, this is despite my salary being “mandated” (paid) in my BOI current account.

Ask them to provide the information needed for you to switch to another bank and see if they’ll budge,,
The same thing happened to me, despite also being in regular employment with wages being paid into the Bank of Ireland account. The most ridiculous thing was that while refusing to give me a debit card, they were happy to offer me a credit card (!).
Without qualms, I took myself, passport and proof of address over to the AIB. Got set up with a Laser debit card, no questions asked.
