		<description>Manager of Crematorium

I have just returned from my 1st experience of a crematorium where I officiated at the Hannah White funeral.

I have to say that everything was very much to my satisfaction. The friendly reception meant a great deal to me and the helpful instructions and suggestions made to me re the conduct of the ceremony were of great help. I was very impressed with the toilet facility available for the invalidid. A small suggestion: I was given this as a changing room for vesting. A small stool would be useful there, if there is a convenient spot to place it. The music was very appropriate and unobtrusive. The amplification was very well modulated. In short a very positive experience for me and I believe the same for the mourners.

Having said all that, I did experience a certain "spookiness" about the whole proceedure which is unavoidable given the circumstances. My preference would without doubt be for the traditional cemetery. However given that it was August 2008 and the rainest august on record to date, I would be open to changing my mind on that one!

<description>[...] It will be recalled that a new Crematorium is to be constructed on Rocky Island which is linked to Ringaskiddy by a bridge. The Minister for Justice yesterday announced that a former Prison on nearby Spike Island, which is not linked to land, will be upgraded and reopened to coincide with the closure of Cork Prison. The Island officially known as Fort Westmoreland (UK) and then Fort Mitchel (IE) occupies a key location in the harbour, and if the climate was more favourable could be tourism attraction like Sydney Harbour&#8217;s Fort Denison. But alas, its proximity to Ringaskiddys industrial zone taints the island, indeed it is understood that this is why the prison is being reopened there, as residents are used to unpleasing neighbours. In keeping with all government decisions which are based on money, a bridge will be built to the island to save the cost of marine transportation, admirable, but then why not build it on land if the island&#8217;s location isin&#8217;t needed?
