Car insurance renewal

I received the renewal notice this morning. Its onlt third party fire and theft and only for a sub 1 litre engined car, but it’ll cost EUR 864.xx.

Why is my insurance so expensive? Did I do something wrong? Maybe mow down a footpath of pedestrians after downing a bottle of Vat 69? No, infact I have a no claims bonus, a sub 1 litre car, have no penalty points.

My only “crime” is having a provisional licence, I want a full licence of course, but I’ve been over 9 months for a test appointment.

GSM location tracking

This vague O2 page suggests that the tracking facility, which has existed since GSMs inception, may actually be available to end users

However given the lack of concrete information it may be just a pomotion of GPRS, which could be used to transmit GPS coordinates.

Register the domain before printing the stationary

The Irish Government’s “Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism” recently used the WIPO system against “Odyssey Internet Portal Limited”

The Department states it had intended to use the domain cultureireland.ie for a new agency called “Culture Ireland” with the goal of promoting Irish culture, which is admirable. However the Department proceeded to have their stationary printed and their agency publicised in the media before actually registering the domain!

David vs Goliath? Well the registrant never responded and still got to keep the domain!

Now here’s the thing, the very same Department that filed the recent WIPO actually had the domain back in 2002 for a brand called CultÃºr and let it drop meanwhile.

Interestingly, this is only the 3rd .ie ccTLD to enjoy a complete WIPO, the others were three.ie and shopelectric.ie. Continue reading ‘Register the domain before printing the stationary’
