Easyspace problems

I need to do a registrar transfer for a .com from Easyspace (a UK based ICANN registry) to OpenSRS. Pursuant to ICANN regulations the winning registrar is required to confirm the acceptibility of the transfer from current registrant. Most registrars do this by sending a stock email to the ADMIN-C informing of the pending transfer and asking for button “Confirm” or “Deny”.

Easyspace do not use this method, instead they require a signed copy of the transfer agreement by post/fax, along with a signed copy of the current registrants passport/driving licence or other official photo ID.

Because this process is relatively complicated I had to handhold the current registrant, , calling to his office, printing the agreement, having him sign it, copying his passport, having him sign it, sending the fax.

Days passed and I got an automated email from Easyspace.

For your information, although we have received authorization
for the transfer of the domain example.com from
yourselves, we are still awaiting authorization from the other
party ( Smith, John example@example.co.uk ).

The transfer will not proceed until we have received
authorisation from both parties. We have sent a reminder
email to the above address.

Fortunately I had kept the original documents of the fax and so sent it again, which cost me another international phone call to the UK. Days later another automated email arrived, so I sent an email to Easyspace’s support email via a form, but as with most large organisations all I got back was an automated keyword derived selection of links transfer FAQs. Unable to contact a human there I sent the fax again, and then another automated email arrived. This time I sent the documents by registered post to Easyspace, an international letter.

Finally I got an automated email from Easyspace.

The registrar transfer request for the domain example.com
has successfully been submitted to the registry. You current
registrar now has 5 days in which to respond to this request.
You do not need to contact them.

Once the transfer has occurred you will be notified by email
and you will receive any other details necessary for you to
access your domain.

Why did I persist using easyspace? Because they accept cheques and I don’t a have credit card. Would I use easyspace again? No way!.
